Combined Study Rooms 4 & 5Patricia Waddell continues her series of presentations on Art Icons of the 20th Century, focusing on Elaine and Willem de Kooning.
Art historians consider Willem and Elaine de Kooning to be top painters in the American Abstract Expressionist Movement, which began in the mid-twentieth century in New York City. This talk will include information about their unique and tumultuous relationship, affairs with other artists and critics, and a briefing on the recently recovered Woman Ochre at the University of Arizona Museum. The Chicago Institute of Art Museum houses some of de Kooning’s award-winning works, including Excavation.
