Get one-on-one assistance from one of our library experts. We will help you set up your devices, learn new skills, start research, and turn your creative dreams into reality.

What are Maker Appointments?
With a maker appointment, one of our knowledgeable staff will guide you through using one of the pieces of equipment in our Makerspace. We currently offer the following equipment:

• Glowforge Laser Engraver

• 3D Printer

• Silhouette Cameo Vinyl Cutter

• Button Maker

• Sizzix Die Cut Machine

• Laminator

• Heat Press

• Loom Knitting Machine

• Yarn Winder



What are General Reference Appointments?
During a general reference appointment, our library experts will help answer your questions, explain how to use different pieces of technology, and assist you in accomplishing your research goals. Common topics for these appointments are:

• Device Assistance (setting up a new iPad or laptop; installing or removing particular software; digital file organization; etc.)

• eBooks and eMedia (setting up the Hoopla, Libby, and Kanopy apps; downloading and adjusting settings with eBooks and eAudiobooks; resolving any issues with Kindle and other eReaders; etc.)

• Help with Library Website (navigating our website and online catalog; using our wireless printing portal; submitting forms; etc.)

• Internet and Computer Basics (navigating different web browsers and sites; finding particular websites; downloading files; adding and removing favorite sites; etc.)

• Library Equipment (using our digitization equipment; setting up and running audio and visual eqiupment in our Recording Studio; assistance in using Library of Things electronic offerings; etc.)

• Research Help (geneaology research; navigating our online databases; finding sources for research projects; etc.)


How long are appointments?
Both types of appointments are up to 45 minutes long.
When can I get an appointment?
Appointments are available at the following times:

Monday - Thursday: 10:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., 2:30 - 4:15 p.m., 7:30 - 8:15 p.m.
Friday: 10:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m., 2:30 - 4:15 p.m.

Appointments must be requested at least 3 days in advance. Please check our calendar under each appointment type to see our current availability

Please contact us at (630) 232-0780 or appointments@gpld.org and we will work with you to see if we can arrange an alternate appointment time for you.
Where do I go for my appointment?
Maker Appointments will take place in the Makerspace on the second floor. For General Reference Appointments, please check in at the Welcome Desk on the second floor. The staff person there will direct you to your appointment location.
