Meeting RoomExplore the types of mushrooms native to Kane County with Barb McKittrick from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.
With names like Giant Puffball, Chicken of the Woods, and Dead Man’s Fingers, fungi are often considered odd and misunderstood organisms. While Kingdom Fungi includes yeasts, molds, and mildews, as well as mushrooms, in this program we’ll focus on exploring the types of mushrooms native to Kane County. After an overview of the life cycle, the anatomy, and the ecological importance of fungi, Barb McKittrick, Environmental Education Manager at the Forest Preserve District of Kane County, will explain how to identify local mushrooms and showcase a few of the species that make their home in our region.
