Secrets of the Wine World (Adults)

Sommelier Timothy Campbell will take us on a fun and fact-filled exploration of the history of wine and recent changes in the world of wine.

Level up your wine game before the Festival of the Vine! Everyone from serious tasters to those who enjoy a glass now and then will walk away with a new appreciation for what is happening in today's dynamic wine world. This is a lecture presentation only - no samples will be served!

This program covers a wide range of topics: a history of wine and its long use use as a medicine; how and where grapes are grown; why dirt matters; winemaking practices and styles; classic and emerging regions; the rise of artisanal producers; natural, biodynamic, and organic wines; how to detect wine faults; how to pair wine with food; and how the pressures of climate change and globalization are shaping the market. Campbell shows how weather, geography, and geology impact the growing of grapes, while genetics, chemistry, history, and cultural tradition shape the wines we enjoy. Questions and interaction are encouraged!
