GOOOOAAALLLL!! The Men's World Cup of Football is taking place in North America this summer — the biggest sporting event in the world. From its origins in England to its present global popularity, Dr. John F. Lyons discusses the history of football/fútbol/soccer through the use of movie clips, photos, and newspaper reports from around the world. He traces the history of the World Cup, examines the reasons behind the slow growth of the game in the United States, and looks at the surge of interest in the women’s game in recent years.
