Night Writers Workshop (Adults)
REGISTRATION RECOMMENDED
Tuesday, February 10
6:00pm - 8:30pm
Geneva Public Library District
Meeting RoomFacilitated by author and teacher Rick Holinger, this workshop welcomes writers of all abilities and genres. Topic: What’s the weather like?
Discussion topic this month: How much do you feature weather conditions in your writing? Because the same weather patterns have been described for millennia, it’s become much harder to “make it new,” as Ezra Pound would insist we do. Weather imagery can be used symbolically as well as suggest nuances of personality in how characters respond to various conditions (for an obvious example, think of “To Build a Fire”).
For February’s manuscripts, if possible, try to include a description of the weather, or outdoor conditions. Great examples include Cormac McCarthy’s, The Road; Alfred Lansing’s Endurance; John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath; and Jon Krackauer’s Into Thin Air.
The Night Writers Workshop discusses various topics within writing and provides a welcoming environment for peer feedback. The program is organized into two sections, critique of submitted manuscripts and discussion of writing topics. For more information on submitting a manuscript, please visit the Night Writer's Guidelines.
