May is National Bike Month! Learn about the role the city of Elgin, IL had in local bicycle history.
A History of the Bicycle in Elgin traces the evolution of the bicycle from its invention to the modern machine with a focus on local bicycle manufacture during the golden age of cycling. The program includes a history of racing, trail building, cycling clubs, and advocacy in Elgin and the Fox Valley.
Tom Armstrong is a retired Elgin city planner with a passion for cycling. He loves to share his knowledge of the history of cycling and the influence of that simple machine on transport, recreation, society, and economic opportunity.
