Perennials are not only pretty, they can be used for other purposes, as shared by Sharon Yiesla, owner of "Sharon Yiesla, Horticultural Services."
Perennial gardens are often all about the design and the aesthetic value of the garden. Several perennials can also serve a purpose beyond just being pretty. We'll look at perennials used for a variety of purposes, including attracting butterflies and hummingbirds, adding fragrance to the garden, and usefulness in dried floral arrangements.
Sharon Yiesla has been a horticulturist since 1983. Sharon runs her own business, "Sharon Yiesla, Horticultural Services," through which she delivers gardening presentations. She earned a BS in horticulture from Purdue University and an MS in horticulture from the University of Illinois. She has taught at Illinois State University, been a horticulture specialist for University Extension in Missouri, worked as a horticulture educator with the University of Illinois Extension in Lake County, and taught classes at Chicago Botanic Garden.
