Join us in honoring one of Geneva’s most beloved traditions! Since 1949, Swedish Days has brought the community together with festive fun, rich heritage, and hometown pride. Explore themed booklists, local history, and related programs—and don’t miss our special exhibit featuring Freya, the head and tail of the iconic Viking ship.
Make sure to stop by the library to visit Freya, the head and tail of the Viking ship that sailed from Norway to the United States for the 1893 World’s Fair. Standing over 8 feet tall, Freya is an impressive example of Scandinavian craftsmanship. Stop by the 2nd floor exhibition space to learn more about Freya’s history and see other Viking artifacts.

In the early 1900s Geneva’s population was mostly Swedish. Geneva continues to celebrate its Swedish heritage each June with one of the largest festivals in Illinois, Swedish Days. Hear two stories of Swedish families who came to Geneva including the 1903 adventure of the Frisk children ages 13, 9 and 6, and Hildegard Carlson’s journey in 1899.

Certified Professional Organizer Kelly Brask will share this insightful and practical presentation which promotes a mindful approach to downsizing and decluttering.
