Local author Jennifer Stoner shares her true story of a 35-year cross-cultural friendship.

A Chocolate Spirit is the true story of a 35-year cross-cultural friendship that will warm your heart, make you laugh, and bring tears to your eyes. It is the story of Jennie, a naïve, small-town white woman, and Rosemary, a street-wise, Chicago-born black woman who meet and develop a friendship that takes the author on a journey toward racial understanding. The author tackles the difficult and often taboo subject of race in an open, honest, and thought-provoking manner and encourages us to begin to understand people on a level that will make a difference in our lives and in the world.

Jennifer (Jennie) Stoner has been an educator for over thirty years, teaching at both elementary and university levels. She has a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and a master’s degree in Recreation with a concentration in Recreational Therapy. Jennie has also worked in long-term care as an activity director and consultant. She enjoys writing, and her works have appeared in magazines and poetry collections.
