teacher resource bags

The Library has a variety of materials to help you as you work with young children. In addition to books, CDs, and DVDs, these special collections are available:

S.T.E.A.M. Kits

Each kit features a different S.T.E.A.M. topic (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) and can be checked out for four weeks. Topics and activities include: Addition and Subtraction, Art Projector, Astronomy, Bird Watching, Electricity, Force and Motion, Geology, Human Anatomy, Insects, MaKey MaKey, Microscope, Origami, Pattern Blocks, Prisms, Reptiles, Simple Machines, Weather, Reptiles, Simple Machines, Weather, and more.

Early Literacy Kits

Each kit features three books and other materials which reinforce reading readiness such as puzzles, music, or toys. There are many kits to choose from including Fun with Science, Healthy Me, and Kindergarten Readiness. These can be checked out for four weeks.

Adaptive Books

Adaptive Books are mainstream stories made accessible for children with special needs then donated to public libraries to give all children free access to appropriate reading materials. A paperback title is deconstructed and four key words on each story page are depicted using picture communication symbols (PCS). The book pages are then laminated with the PCS images and placed in a binder. Page 'fluffers' are added between the laminated pages to enabling children with poor fine motor skills to turn the page. Laminated pages eliminate torn pages and are easily sanitized for children with compromised immune systems.

Discovery Skills Kits

Each kit is assembled to help children practice social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and cognitive life skills in a fun and playful way. These kits contain themed books, toys, manipulatives, and games to provide reinforcement for visual and tactile learners of varying abilities. There are many kits to choose from including Large Motor-Yoga, Self Regulation-Mindfulness, and Social Skills-Manners.

eResources

Your Library card gives you access to many types of online resources any time of day. Two that are geared toward preschool children are:

  • Scholastic’s Bookflix with Get Smart! and Fun to Know! areas to explore.
  • Little Pim which is a language learning tool for children birth to age 6.

Library staff can show you how to access and use our resources. Teachers may use their personal Geneva library card for checkouts, or a preschool may be eligible to obtain a Geneva business card.

Teachers with a library card from a library outside Geneva can use our services with their card. Depending on which library you are a member of, you may need to stop by Geneva Public Library to register your card with us. Ask a staff member if you have any questions about how to use this service.

Please give us as much lead time as possible. Requests may be made by phone, email, or the form on this page.
