Maker services are popular and continue to grow at the Library. To better support our creative community and tech-forward projects, we’re enhancing our Makerspace!

Construction FAQ
Q: Why is the Makerspace closing?
A: To upgrade power supply, ventilation, and equipment so patrons can safely use tools like 3D printers, laser cutters, and more in a refreshed, creative space.
Q: When will the Makerspace be closed?
A: The Makerspace will be closed from June 27 to July 7. A temporary Makerspace will open July 7 in the 2nd Floor Conference Room, and the fully renovated space is expected to reopen in late fall.
Q: What improvements are being made to the Makerspace?
A: The space will have better ventilation, more accessible power outlets, a sink, upgraded tools, and new equipment to support evolving maker technologies. Some of the new equipment includes sublimation printing and an embroidery machine. These changes will create a more versatile and user-friendly environment for all.
Q: Will the Recording Studio be available during construction?
A: No, the Recording Studio will be closed during construction. However, you can still make an appointment with staff for help finding alternative solutions. Recording equipment will be available to check out for home use, and we’re happy to share setup tips to bring your project to life.

Q: What other changes are coming to the Library?
A: We’re also making updates to improve access and convenience:


• Public computers and printers will be relocated closer to the 2nd Floor Information Desk.
• Library of Things items will move to the current printer area near the study rooms.
• New materials will be moved closer to the DVD collection on the 2nd floor.


Q: Will other spaces in the Library be closed?
A: Some nearby areas may have short-term closures during construction. Additionally, the 2nd Floor Conference Room will be used as the temporary Makerspace and will be unavailable for outside bookings during construction.

Q: Can I still use maker equipment during construction?
A: Yes! Most maker equipment will be available in the temporary Makerspace. You can still make an appointment with Library staff for equipment access and project support.
Q: Will 3D Printing services be available during construction?
Yes. You can still submit 3D prints using our online form. For more details, visit our 3D Printing page.
Q: Can I still get technology assistance?
A: Absolutely. Visit the 2nd Floor Welcome Desk or make a general appointment for personalized assistance.
Q: Can I still check out equipment?
A: Yes! Equipment will be stored behind the scenes, but staff can retrieve items for in-library use or checkout. Please visit the 2nd Floor Welcome Desk for assistance.
Q: How will I know about closures?
A: We’ll share updates on our website, social media, eNews, and posted signs in the building.
Q: Will accessibility be impacted?
A: We’re committed to maintaining accessible routes and services. If you need help or have concerns, please contact Library staff.
